Run your first scan

Before you start

Connect the collector: see install the collector. Without it a scan does not start, and the application tells you so.

Choose what to scan

In the scan panel set three things.

1. A point on the map. Click the map or type the coordinates. This is the centre of the scan zone.
2. A niche. Type one business category, for example "dentist" or "car service". Use the language of the map you scan: for Yandex Maps in Russia that is Russian.
3. A radius. Up to 1 km while the service is free. The panel shows an estimate of the number of points and the time before you start.

Run it

Press Run Scan. A scan has two stages:

• a surface search finds the businesses of the zone;
• a deep collection opens each listing and reads its details: phones, website, working hours, services, promotions, reviews.

The collector works through Yandex Maps first; then it looks for the same businesses on Google Maps and 2GIS, where those platforms are available for the country of the scan centre (see platform coverage). It opens listings one by one with pauses, and takes a longer break after every 15 listings, like a person would. This is why a scan takes time. The panel shows the progress of both stages, and you can pause and resume.

What can interrupt it

• A captcha on a map service. You get a notification: solve the captcha in the window it opened and the scan continues.
• A pause that you set yourself in the extension window; press resume to continue.
• A limit. The panel tells you which one; see free use and limits.

Find the result

When the scan is finished the result is saved in My reports. Open the map or the table to look at it (map and table). Pressing Rescan in a report refreshes the data of the zone.

Businesses that were collected less than 60 days ago for the same query are not collected again, so a repeated scan of the same area is fast.
